    Default um, gross

    http://au.lifestyle.yahoo.com/b/new-...stfeed-my-dad/

After researching the idea on the internet, Georgia, 27, expresses her breastmilk as often as she can for her father to drink. He has the milk on his bowl of cornflakes every morning. Itís been his daily routine for the past six months and Tim believes the milk has given him a boost.

This isn't particularly funny, but I burst out laughing when I read it and I don't know why.

This reminds me of this painting I saw (I think it was from the Renaissance) of a beautiful young woman letting this ugly unhealthy looking old man suckle her breasts...

It was suppose to be an allegory of charity... ew.

It is disgusting but I'm not entirely sure why.

I mean we drink cow's milk. Why not drink breastmilk? I'm sure it's not unhealthy.

Although I don't really drink milk so perhaps that's why I'm a bit ambivalent.

Well, I'm guessing it's something along the same reasons why we so enjoy to consume monkey piss and dog shit but not the human versions.

I'm pretty sure that this doesn't make any sense at all, even ironically.

I think the problem isn't that it's human milk, which does carry it's own taboo for adult consumption, but it's his DAUGHTERS, that is what is fucking gross about it.

he negotiated the difference between adult consumption and parental consumption with a fair understanding of societal taboos

so you know maybe reread the post and note that he's not really referring to babies being breastfed

oh, hehe... i inserted a "for" in front of "his DAUGHTERS."

Also, he omitted the apostrophe from "daughter's."

however, again, he's not really telling us anything we don't know. i mean, you didn't realize you found it more disgusting because it's his daughter's until Madame Troy told you?

This is why I made my post, apparently not everyone got that it was his fucking daughters milk. There is clearly nothing wrong with breast milk, but I definitely would not drink any from family members especially past being an infant.

Those are different species though. It's perfectly okay to eat meat off of a cow or pig, but people get all uppity when you want to eat the thigh of a human.

No, I'm not a cannibal, and I am not saying drinking human breast milk is cannibalism, but there is a social taboo about eating or drinking things that come from or off of a human.

It is not normal human behavior to be a cannibal or to drink the species milk as an adult. Some species are prone to cannibalism, we are not.

well that's kind of my point - we are weaned on our mother's breastmilk, but the idea of drinking human milk later in life is repugnant, yet we have no qualms about drink animal's milk.

It's drawing social lines of acceptability, but it's all pretty arbitrary imo. you back up 'normal human' behavior with an argument like 'but that's how it is!' or 'everyone does it!', but that doesn't really explain or back up anything.

and this doesn't have to do with eating the flesh of animals, so that entire comparison is completely irrelevant. There is more involved with the slaying and consumption of an animal than procuring it's milk and consuming that, so taboos that would apply to one don't necessarily transfer to the other.

You guys are arguing but your arguments aren't congruent, and it annoys me.

    Apples are better than oranges
No, oranges are better than apples

You don't have to peel apples
    well, oranges are citrus

apples are easily made into a pie
well, oranges grow in tropical climates

I think it's that we view other species as a food source, and once adults we do not view breast milk as a "normal" food source as society currently views it. It is obviously intended for a child.

Its not just a "everyone does it!" claim, it's normal behavior. There are certain species of animal, Male lions will eat the young on a new pride that he takes over to cause the lionesses to go into heat so he can get some.

It is in the nature of lions to be cannibals, it is part of there social structure. In humans cannibalism and consumption of same-species breast milk is not common. I am not saying it is harmful, it's just not something our species normally does. It's abnormal. Serious Question: Are there any species where the adults will drink the breast milk of other adult members?

Humans are the odd species out in that we actively drink breast milk past the weaning stage anyways. I mean, if you're going by a natural standard, drinking milk after you started eating solid foods is regressive, regardless of whether it's your mother's milk or a cow's (EVEN IF THEY ARE ONE AND THE SAME). So this idea that 'it's gross because it's a family member's milk' seems a little contrived in that light - it's gross because it's milk, period.

Ok, so you're saying on the scale of moral relativism that lion's cannabalism of infants is ok, because it's 'natural', and because it's a widespread pracice, and on these same grounds drinking human breastmilk is abnormal? There are plenty of cultures that see us (I suppose European influenced - europe and the americas, mostly) as being regressive because our diet relies on milk so much. To them, the idea of consuming milk, especially animal milk, is abnormal and strange. Probably because they don't do that as a part of their society on a regular basis, and, I suppose, because it's natural not to.

Does that not make it slightly contrived for us to not eat human meat too?

I mean if I'm totally honest the only thing I have against it myself is the 'sourcing' element. Obviously I could never advocate farming humans or anything. But technically, isn't there nothing wrong with cannibalism if you could somehow get around the ethical/moral ideals.

I only ask because I'm interested in how others view such a subject. And I've kind of always wanted to know what my friend tastes like.

moralistically speaking, our revulsion at cannabalism stems more from our recognition of the potential food source as a friend, or at least as a sentient being, and murdering such solely for our consumption is then seen as a little perverse. It's comprehension and recognition that you could potentially be food as well, and perhaps a sense of respect and homage to the power of self-awareness/sentience or whatever. It's for a very, very similar reason that many vegetarians/vegans give up eating meat, once they make that connection of awareness. For myself, it's more a matter of being surprisingly easy to live with hypocrisy.

There are plenty of, admittedly smaller, cultures that eat their dead out of reverence for them. They don't actively harvest people. Movies with cannibals on tropical islands are myths borne out of fear and blown out of proportion. The other reasoning for cannibalism stems from eating one's enemies in an attempt to steal something from them. Morally speaking, they have better reason for eating people, and more respect towards said meals, than we do to every other meal we eat in our lives. Does this mean I condone cannibalism? No. I just like poking morality and seeing what comes out.

    Can you blame him?

On the actual subject, cannibalism isn't just morally wrong, it's unhealthy as well; being the same species as that which you are eating makes it very easy to get whatever your dinner had before they died. Even if you cooked them first, there's still that chance that you'll catch one of the more hardy viruses/bacteria your victim had--if they had it.

Now that I think about it, I wonder if a fatty would taste better than a gymnast. The fatty might taste like cookies!
