Long story short:
Some houses got egged in my area and a friend needed my help to track down the criminals who did it since they ended up doing property damage. Rotten eggs don't just clean off a house, they damage the paint and harm the windows to the point that sometimes you have to replace them and that's very very expensive.. not to mention what the sulfuric acid from the eggs does to some types of expensive plants that people like putting in flower beds. This cost him over a thousand dollars in damages from the now dead plants alone, even though it seems he used his garden hose in time to save the windows (That would have been tens of thousands more because they are huge and a custom size).
I was able to look at the eggs splatter pattern from one of the thrown eggs that never reached the target house and was able to calculate the direction, height, basic speed, and trajectory they where thrown from, and trace the steps down the street to several more targets, gathering data along the way. While I was collecting this data some suspects passed by on bikes not seeing me bragging about the adventure so I confronted my new suspects with it, turns out they where involved but it looks like they don't actual have parents to punish them, just a overly angry grandmother who thinks her kids can do no wrong. Since nobody actually saw them doing it all, despite the fact the kids admitted it to each other (and are now saying they did nothing), all we could do was gather up the data and my friend added it to the police report he filed, and when the kids slip up again it will be used to track the deeds of the kids, locations, etc and add the kids house as a local possible hot point on my mental map.
I also explained to them that if they check with the police, Washington law states its perfectly legal for somebody to shoot a trespasser or vandal who is harming private property enough to be causing over $1000 of damage:

You see anything equal to or over a cost of $1000 to the property owner of damages is a felony, and as you can see above shooting somebody to stop somebody from committing a felony on private property against the owner or his loved ones is covered by Washington law.
I really hope the kids wise up before the property owner shoots the kids with his shotgun next time, because if this happens again and they only do $5 of property damage and the vandals get shot in the head anyway, based on what a lawyer has told me it would be perfectly legal for the property owner to find a guy willing to overcharge him to fix the damages, present that bid citing over $1000 in damages in court as proof of a felony, and walk off free as a bird for only defending himself/his property from a felony.
