Thread: South Korean couple starved child while raising 'virtual baby'

(CNN) -- A South Korean couple arrested for allowing their baby to starve to death had been raising an online child, state media reported citing police sources.

The couple, residents of a Seoul suburb, allegedly neglected their prematurely born three-month-old daughter, feeding her just once a day in between 12-hour stretches at a neighborhood internet cafe, the official Yonhap news agency reported.

Police said the couple had become obsessed with raising a virtual girl character called "Anima" in "Prius Online", a popular role-playing game in South Korea.

This reminds me of the time I was talking to an Irish Communist who works with the Korean Friendship Association in Ireland, and how one time a DPRK (aka North Korean) diplomat phoned him and told him that the anniversary of Kim Il Sung's birthday was coming up, and told the Irish KFA to be sure to commemorate it, and the Irish Communist was like "Oh, okay."

Also up until the 90's South Korea was a rather poor military dictatorship and Communists fought for rights underground (and pretty much still do) so woo.
