I should expand on that. My opinions are:

Misery Is a Butterfly (2004) is their best album and the most representative, hence your starting point. If you don't like it, you don't like the band.

Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons (2000) is more eccentric and sparse.

Penny Sparkle (2010) is produced very well, which enhances the listening experience. The songs in the first half have addictive hooks and not in the usual annoying pop way, but they slow down in the second half, which loses my attention.

23 (2007)'s songs to take away are "23" and "Top Ranking". Miranda July stars in the video for the latter. The first time I heard the band was at a festival where they were touring for this album, and I really liked the persistent downer-yet-hopeful mood.

It's easy to get sick of them if you listen too much, so space yourself out.
