I've been experimenting with wands and they seem to help me do a bit more decently on Going Rogue. I usually die when I open a door with a room full of bats behind it though.

my current build (that i have to restart because the game decided to crash and wipe my save file) was swords, vampirism, archaeology, blood magic, astrology, crossbows and tinkering.
I didn't want to take crossbow, but starting without one is fucking impossible, because you leech far less than you take.
