My old barber used to use them and do the hairline on the back of my head, as well as my neck. They work well, but had more "tug and pull" than my mach 3.

I use a mach 3. It does a good job. I go with the grain on face and against on neck. If I go against the grain on all of my face it makes it very smooth but I rarely ever bother.

Coincidentally I'm looking into getting a nice electric shaver. I am going to make another thread (someday) but anyone ever had one they liked? The reason I'm looking is because I have been in a foreman position for the past year and need to look presentable. I hate taking the time to shave. I only took the time to do that about twice a month. It takes me about two months to grow a full beard so that's not as long as you may think. A couple of days for some heh.

Mach 3 (and other 3-blade razors) gave me bad irritation and stuff so I started using a safety razor this summer. I've had the best luck with it of anything I've ever shaved with (including aforementioned 3-blades and a Norelco rotary). What I use:

Razor: Amazon.com: Merkur Heavy Duty Double Edge Razor #34C + 5 Free DE Razor Blades: Health & Personal Care. I was told Merkur was better than Parker (the other brand I saw Amazon had) and I'm happy. The handle is very short, only a bit longer than my thumb, but you can't really hold a safety razor the same way you hold a modern razor anyway so I like to think it helped me learn. Amazon also has the 33C, which I believe is longer handled, if you have to have it (big hands and I don't, though).

Blades: these will be specific to you. My razor came with a free Merkur blade, which I liked. After I was done with that one, I started using Amazon.com: 10 Feather Razor Blades NEW Hi-stainless Double Edge: Health & Personal Care which are (I'm told) as sharp as DE blades come. Loads of people bitch about cutting themselves but they work superbly for me, so I figure it's personal.

Brush: get one. Amazon.com: Tweezerman Men's Shaving Brush: Health & Personal Care was the first result on Amazon for 'shaving brush' at the time I bought all this shit and it's served me well for $10, and an increase in quality puts you towards $60-$80, I understand.

Soap: people recommend against canned shit and my experiences with using it with a DE razor were crappy. I first used http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/prod...7431&cm_vc=200 (because I didn't buy soap when I bought the razor and didn't want to wait on shipping so I had to buy local) and now use 404 Looking for Something? . They're all great, the dry is probably the better value though (you add water instead of paying the factory to).

Oh and buy a styptic pencil I got one at walmart for less than $1 and it comes in handy.

I learned by watching some foreigner do it on youboob and trial and error (error being you cut your bitch ass). I pretty much don't go against the grain at all and across only rarely, and get a better shave than I ever did going against with plastic razors. I shave in two passes, I think the foreigner takes three but his country probably has a 35 hour work week.

Only con I can think of is time; be prepared for shaving to take ~10 minutes. It takes me about 6 now, if I shaved the day before. It took way longer as I was figuring it out, though.

It probably seems idiotic what I do, which is shave with a Gillette Fusion Power Razor, no soap only water, and after a hot shower or washing my face with soap and hot water.

It gives me a good shave with no razor burn or cuts as long as I regularly replace the blade cartridge. And I'm the type of person that has to shave every single day or I'll grow a beard. At most I can let my scruff grow out for a day before I start looking like Wooly Willy.

But I wouldn't recommend this to other people. It just works for me, for whatever reason. I guess I have tough skin...

I actually do the same as sycld. It definitely feels better to use shave cream, but I rarely have the time.

In the winter, I'm sometimes more willing to if my skin is drying out, so I use: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Kiehls-Shavers-Squadron-Ultimate-Brushless/dp/B000S92RAY/ref=sr_1_3?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1321620046&sr=1-3"]Amazon.com: Kiehls - Close Shavers Squadron Ultimate Brushless Shave Cream - Blue Eagle: Health & Personal Care[/ame]

Otherwise, I sometimes apply lotion after shaving. This is by far the best, especially in the dead of winter when my face is upset with the climate and dries out in protest: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Kiehls-Facial-Energizing-Moisture-Treatment/dp/B000H740DE/ref=sr_1_4?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1321620007&sr=1-4"]Amazon.com: Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Moisture Treatment For Men - 75ml/2.5oz: Health & Personal Care[/ame]

How often do you change your blade? I don't have a set number of shaves, just when I feel resistance I pop it out and put a new one in.

Since I don't usually use shaving cream, I change it when the moisturizer on the blade runs out.

I shave twice a week (I only shave for work) and a blade lasts probably two to three months, I would guess. I've never really thought about it but I haven't bought blades in a long time.

I may switch to the power fusion. Someone at work tried to get me to switch. One reason I don't shave often is that it takes time and I like to do it before I shower. I usually forget until I get in. If I can dry shave it may speed that up for me.

I might go to a barber at some point and get a straight razor shave because I've heard that they are great (obviously not something I could afford regularly).

I use the proglide right now. With each new razor gilette makes, the irritation it causes is less and less, but it's still quite a bit of irritation. It's nothing too serious though, so I have no immediate desire to switch.

When I shave I use a safety razor. I usually switch blades after every shave. I got a styptic pencil when I first started but after my first shave I dont cut myself any more.
