Band meeting

I'm part of a band who's members are dispursed over some area (Aberystwyth, Cardiff and London). We currently use a Facebook group to communicate online. This becoming increasingly irritating for a number of reasons (conversations get lost as they can't be prioritised etc) and I would like to find an alternative. The first thing that sprung to mind for me was creating a free forum but I wanted to check that there aren't better alternatives. So does anyone have any suggestions of better alternatives and if not, could you recommend the best free forum host?

Emails; Gmail labels and stars with automatic filters can be used for prioritization.

Google has a thing called Groups (groups.google.com/). I've personally never used it (just looked around) but it seems pretty easy and straight forward.

Google+ has Hangouts and on the mobile they have Messenger that is a neat chat type thing. I've used it with Piranhas on here and a few people from XDA. You can also have Google Docs and share a doc with the people in the group. And with Google Calendar you can have a calendar that you share with each other. Also sharing things with people is easy in Google+. I think I want to have googles baby.

We already use a google calendar which is registered to our band email address. I'm going to have a snoop at Google+ circles now.

I'm going with a forum. Google groups and +hangouts suck and we aren't communicating in real-time so skype is out of the equation. Which free forum hosts are best?

Ugh just use Gmail, which organizes messages into "conversations."

There are probably what 5 members of your band? If so you don't need a forum, just one long thread of conversation.

There are 8 of us. No-one else has gmail, they'd probably be happier signing up for something completely different than all switching email to google.
