actually a commonality of emos and other such "indie", "non-conformist" subcultures is that they often think that they are the enlightened, accepting, tolerant minority and the rest of us are ignorant and oppressive and unoriginal
not all emos, mind you -- many are extremely generous, interesting, lovely people who i'd be happy to spend time with any time -- but i don't know if the emo community can claim higher status than any other style-based group in this particular regard of not thinking they're better than people
