well american taste really has improved THAT much over the last decade to decade and a half when every upper middle class became a wine-snob, pesto became a household word, and the like. granted, it's easier to get better food than before, but most americans still probably don't know what truly good food is.

in other words, americans only say they care about fancy teas to seem sophisticated.

but to be fair there is a branch of tea shops from taiwan that have some american locations, one of which is near me. but that's different since that's chinese.

it seems to be an unwritten rule that whenver you asked for "iced tea" it has to be lemon. HAS TO BE.

If I've been working outside on a hot day I'm partial to a glass of unsweetened ice tea (with lemon). If I'm all hot and sweaty the sugar makes me feel kinda like shit.

in the northeast and midatlantic we still call it ice tea usually.

also you should try dilmah teas. they're a ceylonese label with single estate grown teas, a little more expensive than most tea but you can really taste the difference.

there was actually an npr piece about them a while ago. they seem to be becoming more widely available in the us at least.

Nothing disgusts me more than artificially sweetened tea.

    NOTHING.

I had a friend who worked for some time in a coffee shop in Tennessee. She told me that Sweet Tea is about 3 cups of sugar, 1 cup of tea.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned yerba mate yet. Its not really a tea per se, but is drank in the same manner.

Sure, if you like a drink that tastes and smells like feet.
