Thread: Things I Remember from LWS

So I decided to recall what I remember from LivingWithStyle.

2004
I join forum in May thanks to Smurfy-v2.0 posting a topic about LWS on the Ebaumsworld forum. I get banned by Rick Scarf after making a fag joke in Personal Support. I rejoin. I enter Flames and acquire a Matthew Lesko avatar that everyone hates. I gain a reputation for AIM messaging everyone. PaulyT teaches me how to capitalize words properly.

Besides this, I remember TheGunOwner (aka David) and the concept of Style Points. It was all very original back then, and I was member 4700-something; the community was tiny. I also remember a user called PureOwnage getting banned over and over.

As for random trivia, LWS was based off of the website Fucking Cool Shit. Also this year SomethingAwful (where most of TGO's members were originally from) made a Weekend Web update featuring LWS: http://www.somethingawful.com/d/week...with-style.php

Karl was an awesome poster. Also I remember Space Cowboy especially not liking me very much.

2005
LAME is founded by Jerome. The Anarchy forum is created because veteran Flames posters do not like the influx of shitty posters coming into Flames. Anarchy "Kings" or whatever are added, and I suggest to TGO that a recorded list be generated. He calls on Soup to do it, and it is so. Also Soup was great at coding and had things like an avatar that one could write comments in. For what it's worth, there was also a Communist usergroup on the forum which I joined, but I knew little about Communism back then.

Early on in the year I'm basically banned from Flames. I also remember a user called TruthinRotation and his girlfriend, banananna, who was apparently in a state where him having sexual relations = rape and such. I also engage in an AIM discussion with Nevrmore that he doesn't want anyone to know about for some reason.

I create a Wikipedia article for LWS and David Chapman (aka TGO), but both are deleted within months. I also gain like 20 referrals, the two most notable being Maade and Humanoid. I recall fcrunk (with capnjiffy, mutton, etc.) and their MSPaint stuff.

Emos begin appearing on the forum. For some reason some guy made an "Emo Hair" thread, and thanks to Satanic powers it managed to become the #1 Google result for "emo hair," ergo a boatload of emos. Downfall of LWS begins here. I become unbanned from Flames. I use SP to "buy" 9000000 Flames edits with Hobo and edit users' posts to make fag jokes. Soup, seeing that I now possessed around -9000000 SP with Hobo, bans us both. I rejoin.

"Code Red" is announced due to the emos fagging up the forum. Pretty much the breaking of any rule, no matter how minor, resulted in a ban. It lasts for about a week, and is then lifted. TGO got very... entrepreneurial this year. From stuff like being able to have our own mini-forums to the introduction of Zoints. There were also some highly autonomous forums that branched off into their own forums and are basically "independent" now, such as Labia Majora (now renamed to Lady Majora or whatever) and Drugs and Booze. There was also "Fucking Nasty Shit" but it's down.

Also, at one point there was some sort of "style" system introduced after "Code Red" which "judged" the "quality" of ones posts and would thus grade the user. Higher scores for users = more SP per post. Also, this year Supermod named Fubarbabee dies.

2006

I basically just recall that this year was full of failure. Flames was removed for like five days and never returned, and Anarchist was removed soon after. A new Flames took its place. And some guy named "PY" threatened to shoot up his school and this incident got LWS mentioned in the news:

The case began when a person going by the name of “Py” posted the first of several messages to a chat room at www.livingwithstyle.com Wednesday.

“I’m planning a Columbine on my dumb hippie school on the last day of school so everybody will be there to enjoy the Massacre,” he wrote and later said, “I know where my dad’s 12 gauge is along with his .45, .38 and his .22. And I have some very good ‘associates’ who own pawn shops.”

I tune out of LWS shortly after this because emos take over. But before this, I manage to have a thread of mine be inducted into the "Best of the Best" section of the forum.

2007

I host a forum game in General Discussion that does well and gets about 20 pages or so. ColdReaper was an awesome poster. Also, from one player who didn't particularly like me and ranted a lot: "I'm simply pointing out the fact youre a piece of shit for singling out a guy because you think hes a fascist, he went to hospital and lives in a different timezone."

Regret decided to comment on the game in Flames. I notice the topic title and enter the forum. I see that Flames has turned to shit and decide to take a stroll. I recall getting quite a few threads to 10 pages or so full of arguments. I get banned from Flames; confine myself to the Trash Heap but apparently no one likes me there either, and then Gwahir bans me for making a fag joke.

LWS reached 60k users or so by this time.

2008

LWS dies. Two Casual Discourses come and go, the latter by gr11d. I got banned on both, and I'll pretend it is because I made fag jokes.
