Most (all?) of the people that showed up after the last mass-email were douches we weren't missing. I'm happy with this site as it is, most of the old LWS members I'm actually interested in are here. Adding new people will probably fuck that up. Most of the people who are gone suck (re: mass-email). The remainder live off-and-on in rizon/#flames and won't come back.
<meta name="description" content="A discussion forum for all topics from technology, to entertainment, to all things geeky, taboo, sexual, and fun! CD is the refuge for all the members of the now defunct Living With Style forums from livingwithstyle.com" />
the secret is we are all a bunch of no good faggots.(don't reveal the secret)
oh
Serious answer is that unless this site is properly moderated and at least some rules are observed regarding post content then this site will stay the way it is. The problem is that lots of people want it to.
Personally I would be happy to observe LWS style rules in order to get more members/posts. There's nothing to read on CD. The thing I liked about LWS was lurking, there's nothing to gain from lurking CD except for a headache and a mild case of racism.
what made lws interesting to browse, at least, was that there were a few really competent people who actually knew something about a specific field. 80% of the population were still retards, but those few people who knew things about fields I was casually interested in made it worth browsing the other forums.
this whole site is just flames. there is pretty much nothing else of real interest here. Until this site manages to draw back some genuinely interesting people (which is unlikely, as the whole setup panders to the old guard who, for the most part, ignore it), it's going to continue to languor as it is. Changing the moderation rules does not provide content, it just sort of facilitates some additional content.
tl;dr you want to see this place more lively? invite interesting or at least knowledgeable friends.
part of the greater issue is that there is no real focus on anything here. Without a specialized topic to draw in people who either a) can provide solid information about something) and/or b) meet other people who have similar interests/knowledge whatever and/or c) are actually funny and d) for some reason enjoy this crowd, nothing will really happen.
Enforcing some rules would stop the whole site being flames and also encourage the existing members to post decent content, thus making it easier to attract knowledgeable and interesting people. Right now there is no point inviting interesting people because the place is such a shambles and every sub forum is full of of one line replies, in-jokes and cussing.
On the whole I agree with you though. I just think that if we are going to attract more/decent people then we need to start by addressing the way existing users contribute.
Also flames would need to be hidden from new people.
How about not crashing every 2 weeks?
Hey LargeDuck, making Faesce Plaesce is the best bit of moderation this side of the 100.16.*.* IP block
Like someone else said, the site is pretty much just flames. Sure there are other forums, but there arent enough people here to make them all active. There are a few people that are active in each subforum, but just 2-3 people wont keep it alive.
