This isn't that thread where there's like that list, I just want some movies to download.
For instance I've never seen Pan's Labyrinth so I'm going to do that now.

I'm A Cyborg But That's OK.
It's a Korean film about a girl (who's convinced she is a robot and refuses to eat) and a guy (a schizophrenic who thinks he can steal people's souls) and they fall in love in the mental institution in which they both live. It's just one of those films that sounds like random shit made up for an internet forum but is, in truth, a real film made by the guy who did Oldboy.
pan's labyrinth is a must see unless you're one of those retards who can't read subtitles and catch the action at the same time
vicky cristina barcelona if you realize that woody allen movies can't be chick flicks
burn after reading if you like dark comedies with intertwined subplots
Children of Men
Children of Men is a critically-acclaimed sort-of science fiction film. It has been listed on numerous top 10, top 50, etc, lists.
"Set in the United Kingdom of 2027, the film explores a grim world in which two decades of global human infertility have left humanity with less than a century to survive. Societal collapse, terrorism, and environmental destruction accompany the impending extinction.
...
Children of Men takes an unconventional approach to the modern action film, using documentary, newsreel style to convey what critic Michael Joshua Rowin describes as "stunning verisimilitude within its mise-en-scène." For Rowin, the film alludes to and resonates with the catastrophic destruction and symbolism of the September 11, 2001 attacks." (source Wikipedia)
Children of Men? You consider that a movie that must be seen?
I mean it was alright, and I saw Pan's Labyrinth and it's a good movie which I enjoyed but it isn't anything like omg best movie ive ever seen type deal.
Gummo is kind of dated now, but it's incredibly bizarre and densely entertaining.
Memento. Trust me on this. A little boring if you want action, but if you appreciate the art of film, you'll love it.
I remember 'City of God' being awesome, so I'm acquiring it now. Subs ftw.
Your name is 'Cool Runnings'. You don't get a say in this...
Although Memento is great, it's only really great because it works towards a great ending.
Requiem For A Dream is one of those films that everyone should see, but only because it would cause about a quarter of them to commit suicide on the spot...
Well if you want a foreign drama film, I suggest "Beijing Bicycle".
"Beijing Bicycle revolves around a seventeen-year-old boy Guei (Cui [Lin]) from the countryside who came to Beijing to seek work. He finds a job with a courier company, which assigns him a brand-new bicycle. After it is stolen one day, the stubborn Guei goes on a search for his missing bicycle. " -Wikipedia
I mean that sounds a little cheesy but this is an excellent film and really draws in the viewer.
I just watched Dr. Strangelove again. If you haven't seen it, do it.
on the topic of foreign films,
Amores perros — if you like unconventional drama
The Science of Sleep — if you are quirky
July Rhapsody — high school student tries to seduce teacher
Il Mare — original of The Lake House, more captivating in spite of the premise, better ending, tearjerking
Internal Affairs 1 & 3 — original of The Departed, better interplay between the undercover cop and the bad cop, more story
I probably shouldn't have mentioned Pan's Labyrinth; I'm really not trying to see foreign films; just "classics" in a sense.
I saw Memento and Requiem For A Dream, I thought the latter was really depressing and Memento was very good; and to clear things up, Natalie was the only one who actually manipulated him and Joe Pantoliano is actually telling the truth, correct?
Other movies waiting to finish are:
Trainspotting
Snatch
A Clockwork Orange
2001 ASO (I've actually already seen this, but I saw it in school)
Full Metal Jacket
Gangster No.1
Star Wars
I've never sen Cloverfield, I'm going to watch it now actually.
Gummo, is a "Must Watch" if you want to see a very bizarre and surprising movie. Maybe I should have been more transparent in my OP.
Good thread. I've been meaning to download some classics for a while. ATM I'm stealing full metal jacket, snatch, CWO and trainspotting.
I saw it the other day. It's not terrible but not great. It was watchable and kept me entertained for 90mins.Originally Posted by Rainmann

Not sure if I'll download it but I'll look at it in a minute.
The Prestige. They butchered the book in the film version (of course) but it's still a great movie, and there are a few scenes that are absolutely priceless - whether moving, disgusting, shattering, etc.
That's about all I can think of at this minute...

THX 1138
Taxi Driver
Easy Rider
Eraserhead
Blade Runner
Apocalypse Now
Those were just the few I saw when I looked at my meager DVD collection. I also agree with some of the other choices in this thread, specifically Requiem for a Dream.
my not liking it has nothing to do with whether i think it's a must watch. neither does my (separate) judgment of its quality. but a fucked up, violent movie like gummo does not fall into the category of "must watch" anything. we're not talking about good or bad movies itt; we're talking about movies that "must be seen", which is a different topic entirely.
lolturnip, you're a complete idiot.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. And he smashingly proves his point by calling you an idiot.
I didn't love Gummo and I didn't hate it either. But, it does take a look at what happens to society post-disaster, specifically Anytown USA post-disaster (the film opens right after a tornado) and it's an interesting character study. Personally I liked Kids (by the same director) better, although the lead character talked like he was mentally retarded - he isn't - which kept me from fully enjoying the movie.
I thought of a couple more movies. They're artsy and out there, and at least one of them is amazingly hard to find (even online) but check out Lawn Dogs, and The Reflecting Skin
I'm with gwahir on this one. Gummo doesn't need to be seen by anyone. In my opinion it is hardly worth watching, but there's nobody who is going to put gummo on their list of 'must see' movies. Star Wars, The Godfather, Gummo.....no, it's just fucking stupid.
That being said...

I wanted to throw a title out there that hasn't been spouted countless other times.
I mean, I recognize that you're all naming classic films, but I don't think it's to far out there to bring up some movies that are entertaining and interesting in more unique ways.
remember the spartans
Facing the Giants
gummo was quite disturbing.
boys dont cry, imo, is a "must see".
