just read that michael chabon book the amazing adventures of cavalier and clay (good, but often dragging) followed by jane eyre (terrible) followed by making history by stephen fry (disappointing and uncharacteristically uninsightful) followed by explaining consciousness by dan dennett (difficult) followed now by an anthology of neitzche containing twilight of the idols, ecce homo and the antichrist
i'm ashkenazi, not im; im is the male hebrew plural
I read The Host by Stephanie Meyer and I was hooked. Finished it and loved it. Read it based on a recommendation of a friend. Might read or watch the Twilight Saga to see how the rest of author pans out.

The Time Travellers Wife taught me so much about time travel.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants gave me my first period.
Angel of Death by Jack Higgins.
The Dome by Stephen King
it's pretty intense
Just finished reading Song of Kali by Dan Simmons.
Not sure what all the hype is/was about this book about it being frightening, but I definitely DO NOT WANT to go to Calcutta. That's even more than I didn't want to go before I read this book, now that being eaten by 8-armed hindu women figures so prominently amongst my 'not-to-dos '.
Currently reading "The Creature from Jekyll Island: A Second Look at the Federal Reserve" by Edward Griffin
A bit of conspiracy theory but if you can get past that it's a pretty good and informative read.
I'm reading the first Harry Potter book for my English class.
Is this an English class for 11 year olds?
There are low expectations at the University of Arkansas. One of the other Freshman English classes is reading Night by Elie Wiesel. I read that for an English class when I was 16! And I mean, fuck, I read The Good Earth when I was 11.
I dunno, easy A, I guess.
University of Arkansas? What's your minor, whittling?
60% of your class will just watch the movie
30% will do nothing, because they already watched it 9 years ago
I bet some of your classmates only took that class because their evangelical families burnt their copies.
Yeah, the teacher said that we should drop the class if we're not comfortable with reading and discussing Harry Potter. I think one person dropped the class.
Well I wouldn't be comfortable with reading and discussing harry potter either but for entirely different reasons.
please, freshmen english is a joke regardless. Anyone with a proper high school education can write sufficiently for any undergrad assignment. I've been doing it for 3 years now and have yet to get less than an A on any writing assignment.
Basically, various groups of regents and administrators have been brainwashed by english professors that freshman comp is necessary to write properly. Probably because no one in their right mind would take and English course otherwise, and that's lost revenue for the department. (for the record, I like Night, and frankly I think it's a better decision than HP for a comp class because it's actually written to a young-adult-and-older audience and it's short as hell and no one should have to devote that much time to a comp class) Make freshmen comp and college algebra (and probably trig) non-credit remedials, people should be learning that shit in high school.
OT, I'm reading a book about the moral and ethical implications of area bombing in WWII called Among the Dead Cities by some british dude.
just got Dante's Divine Comedy for my birthday (yeah guys thanks for noticing, jeez some friends oh wai..)

and obviously i'm going to get dantes inferno for the xbox, just for comparison (apparently there's boobs)

Sponge if you think a majority of people who attend college can write at a high school level before or after college, you probably can't write at a high school level.
this reminds me of how I took a junior-level english course my first semester as a college freshman and wowed the professor.
americans have such pathetic writing skills. what's even worse is that american's aren't as bad as the british.
no, most brits are not faggots like think, unfortunately.
currently reading franzen's Freedom. I bought it the day before I got the email from Borders announcing it had just become inducted into Oprah's fucking book club, I swear
actually, it's very good, quite the page turner.
I am currently reading Ishmael by David Quinn after a lot of my friends recommended it to me. I'm enjoying it so far.
Recently I am reading The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad.
Its a awesome book which I found very interesting and thrilling.
And also want some recommendations for new books.
