6 Oscar wins.
Thoughts?
I didn't see The Hurt Locker so my opinion isn't entirely informed, but I'm pretty sure it's bullshit that it won Best Screenplay over Inglourious Basterds.
Oscar bait. I hate most Oscar bait, and I didn't much care for this one either. It was very realistic feeling, but it's one of those things that is what it is just for its own sake. It felt hollow.
Heh, you'd know a lot better than me. As an uninformed observer it felt authentic to me, but I do suppose I have very little knowledge of what being over there would actually be like.
I felt it was fairly accurate on some of the smaller details, but than again I'm not in the Army so my opinion is invalid. Although some of the major events were just ridiculous, for example, when he leaves the wire by himself and nobody gives two shits about it. I will say though that the movie got me to seriously consider switching my MOS.
The MAIN part that got me was the sniper scene. The insurgents that were shooting with an $800 Druganov ($800 here, probably like $100 there) and were getting one shot kills on the marines, and then the Marines with the $10,000 Barret couldnt even hit in the window. Then the blood jamming the gun was complete bullshit.
The small things were just the cheap red dot sights they had. Like the one guy had the knockoff ACOG reddots. Most people wouldnt even notice it, but being a gun guy, specifically ARs, I noticed it right away.
And yea, leaving the wire by yourself w/o permission would get your ass in some serious trouble. Especially if you break into some ones house and pull a gun on them like he did.
Anony the permission wasn't the issue... the whole point was that he was an adrenaline junkie who needed a fix.
Hobitopia is talking about the fact that he was just able to casually walk out.
He hopped in that Arab's truck, held him at gunpoint, and told him to drive.
