well yeah, I still beat the game, but I didn't do the 5 hour boss fights. I did the hour long one but realistically you just set your tactics or whatever it was called and leave for an hour.

It made their new version of random encounters easy to deal with, as you just needed to run from place to place instead of inputting every friggin command to deal with small monsters. This alone made so much of the game more palatable, to me. It did, somewhat, take away from bossfights as you could theoretically optimize gambits and walk away, but I would really only use gambits to ensure my team was always buffed for whatever tactic I was using (lure, berserk, shell/protect/haste/bravery, bubble, and reverse on one, shell/protect/haste/faith on the casters, or bravery for the ranged) so that they would autorefresh their buffs while I dealt with whatever additional bullshit came into the fights manually.
tl;dr: I liked gambits, fuck da haters
