Im with atmosfear on the voice acting, to an extent. They do have Simon Templeman voicing the traitor dude, he is one of the finest voice actors in the business. Aside from that, I did find much of the voice acting, especially with regards to the npc's to be lacking a bit.
As for all of the dialogue scenes....I was initially pissed off with the amount of time spent not playing, but Im ok with it now. I got the game more for the plot, which it what I look for most in an RPG.
So far I get the impression that the 360 version has been rather restrained, the production values really could have been better, it is only a minor complaint just now, but I am with atmosfear in that a 2009 release should not have these issues.

and atmostphere i dunno whether you're playing console or what (you said install though so i'll assume pc) but there is subtitles (l2options) and esc is fast forward/skip.
also yeah there is a lot of reading, but thats awesome? more immersive and its not like you HAVE to read it all, so whats the problem?

are you sure that you don't have subtitles as an option you can activate? i was able to activate them in the settings.
i mean, the game does have subtitles...

By the way, decent voice acting is when they have lots of people doing the voices for the characters, instead of just a few. Oh and the people doing it, are doing it well of course lol.
Not whether its mapped to the models to make it look realistic and/or how well its been done.

Dunno about you guys but I haven't reconised any voices from one character to the next so far, unlike oblivion.
So yeah I'd say the voice acting is pretty decent.

I think they mean the acting itself is bad, like Ed Norton in the new Hulk game, or Keanu Reeves.
Well I'm just saying bad voice acting is when they use the same persons voice for a multitude of different characters, and its easy to tell.
Which, as far as I can tell, they haven't done in origins.
The acting itself I think is pretty good, but thats not really what I'm talking about, I'm just saying thats nothing to do with voice acting lol.

ShitFace, I'm glad that you've applied your idiotic definitions to my words. Sure, one way that voice acting can be bad is if the producers don't hire enough actors. But if you stop the definition there, are you meaning to say that all voice actors are otherwise interchangeable? Please. And part of voice acting is mapping the voices to the characters' actions; the visual component sells what the voice cannot. In the case of this came, it's difficult to tell which piece is letting the other down.
The voices are flat. Accents are generic. There's little to no emotion in them, ever, much less anything to tie them to what actually occurs in the game. Compare this to the Uncharted games, which were movie-quality in both audio and visual. Granted, my expectation for a 40+ hour game is different from a 12-hour game, but when they lampshade the hell out of it the way they have in DA:O, I would expect it to be one of the higher quality aspects of the game.
Well, voice acting aside (which I still don't think is nearly as bad as you're making it out to be), I'm not sure how you can complain about a generic plot. I mean, yes, it is rather conventional, but then again what RPG video game in a fantasy setting doesn't have a generic plot? Yeah, Oblivion was so incredibly unique with its demons threatening to destroy the world. And I suppose they invented elves and mages too, right?
On the other hand, I think that the universe does have some rather unique aspects. For one thing, religion is truly a matter of faith in Thedras, as there is really no direct interaction of the divine in the worlds of mortals or spirits. I also can appreciate the rather complex relations between the Circle of Mages and the Templars. In fantasy games, you're inevitably going to find a ton of convention in both the plot and the universe; the novelty has to be found in variations upon these conventions.

For as much hype as it received, I expected more than "yes it's generic but everything in this genre is generic." This doesn't even try to break the mold. Maybe the story is that good, but you can't convince me that filling out a generic fantasy world with a bazillion paragraphs of generic back story makes the game any better.
I mean a couple hours in and the game is basically trying to make me become Rand from Wheel of Time.

well i wasn't following all of the pre-release hype, but oblivion was pretty damned hyped up too and still delivered a rather generic story.

What an inane comparison everyone seems to enjoy making. Being better than Oblivion doesn't put you very high above the shit heap.
Also, the loading situation is getting to be seriously annoying. I'm in Redcliffe and keep having to run into various houses and buildings and the loads take entirely too long. I'm glad I have other stuff to do while playing, otherwise, I'd spend a lot of time bored (load screen, talk talk talk, load screen, talk talk talk, load screen, kill a dwarf, load screen, talk talk talk.)

It's not like I can get my fucking money back, now, can I? I paid for it, and I want to express my opinion of the game so no one else makes an uninformed partially informed decision about the purchase. That's the whole point of consumer social media. Just because you don't like that I don't like the game doesn't mean I don't have just as much claim to an opinion as you do.
And like CC said, I didn't even have to buy the game to have a right to complain about it. I'm a consumer; its their job to make me happy, not adapt my criteria to fit their offerings. If you look at games the way I do, then my opinion would be valuable in helping you decide whether or not to commit your $60 and 40+ hours. If you don't look at games the way I do, then you are probably a casual faggot like sycld who forgives painful oversights and laziness on the part of developers that have been common occurrence in games for the past 2 generations. If no one makes note of them, developers will never change. Likewise, if no one praises Uncharted/2 for their excellent story, presentation, and voice acting, no one will adopt the practices as standard.
Also, rumor has it that NCAA 11 will have an option in every game mode to disable DLC so it won't be constantly advertised as options you can't afford to use. Bitching works. (But not as well as internet rumor-makers.)

We disagree about what the real downfalls of the game are. I enjoy the copious dialogue and huge amount of information in the codex. There are plenty of ways to skip advance the dialog more quickly if you're not interested in reading it all, and the codex can simply be ignored.
As for loading times, they are annoying, but they aren't deal-breaking for me.
You haven't even mentioned the very limited class system, where there really only one fully realized class and two half-developed classes. That I think this is one of real issues with the game.

I rented this game for the 360 and it was really fun, but the controls made it too difficult to play on anything above normal difficulty. Then I saw the PC version and was impressed.

I really want to get this game, but after playing Fallout 3 for the PS3, I don't think I want to play another RPG on the console until March.
