I'm glad the game occasionally crashes, because otherwise I wouldn't stop playing it.
I haven't had any crashes yet.

I've only had one crash and it was painless and quick. Just started the game right back up. Also just got through Bleak Falls Barrow and the mine south of Riverwood. Is there any point to that mine? Still anticipating my first dragon battle.
EDIT - This guy messed around with the graphics to make it look like TF2. http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comme...hics_settings/

Hah, giant using a saber-toothed cat for batting practice.
The reason why the graphics look "bad," or at least not nearly as good as they could on a PC, is because it's really a port of an Xbox 360 game onto PC. Though some graphical enhancements were added in the PC port, it can't take full advantage of more powerful hardware.
Like I hate that I can see pixelation in many of the textures, just as an example of a very basic put important issue. This isn't 2005.
It absolutely sucks how new PC releases are now all just direct ports of console games, with the exception of PC-only releases of course.
Is there ANY reason why casters should wear cloth over light armor? I simply see no advantage, considering that light armor can have the exact same spell enhancements as well...
I guess spell-enhancing light armor is harder to find, and if you want to enchant it you have to both level enchanting and get souls high enough to make it worth it.
Honestly, I'm glad the graphics aren't that great because I'm playing with a shitty Intel HD Accelerated graphics card on my laptop and it lets play on low for everything *whew*. I tried higher settings but it gets choppy. However, when I build that badass PC I do want to play this game on max settings because screenshots of this game look absolutely gorgeous. I'll post some of those I've seen.

Some of these screenshots show how amazing this game looks and other screenshots I just thought were cool.

I cannot see how people can say the graphics on this game are bad. It's no bf3, but its fucking huge, the amount of content and attention to detail...what the fuck do they expect? in under 5gb (unless i am imagining seeing this) as well jesus.
I think its beautiful.
Also just killed my first dragon and also lol werewolves.
btw try dropping some stuff around people
also sycld you should totally lvl ench and souls, that would go so well with an evil caster or something, not to mention it'd be so satisfying once you have a full set of caster light armour lol.
also you'd be a fucking badass.

Well, why the fuck did it HAVE to be under 5 GB? What's imposing that limit, in your mind?
The problem is that the game was made to be played on 5 year old hardware (i.e. the Xbox 360), and when it was ported to the PC, Bethesda didn't bother enhancing the graphics to the point that the game could take full advantage of modern hardware.
I do think the game looks good, but those screenshots actually illustrate a good number of the problems: aliasing of foliage textures (I find this REALLY distracting), low-res textures, etc. Yes, of course everything looks best from a distance, but to play the game you gotta look at things up close.
Look, the point is that when games were developed for PCs first, they were allowed to push the envelope if you had the hardware to support it (or if you didn't you probably could get a good experience at lower level settings). Now, it seems that more and more games are being made for the out-dated hardware of consoles first, then ported to PCs without enough of an enhancement to their graphics to support modern hardware.
I got frustrated with morrowind because I seemed to have lost the main storyline. I kept dying in Oblivion. I've dumped about 20 hours into this in the last couple days, and I'm fucking loving it.
FUS RO DAH motherfuckers.
Kinda sucks that it was ported with glaring issues that would've been easy to fix, but its easy to get used to the fucked up menus pretty quickly and once you get past that this game is tits-tacular
Ugh... I was having fun, but then I ran into this one fucking mainline story quest that would be best done with sneaking, but can be fought through. The main problem is I don't have my gear because it's mostly taken from you during the quest.
lol you misunderstand me, I never said it had to be under 5gb ( turns out its over anyway, 5.7gb), just that it was around that mark. my point was that thats's pretty fucking impressive to get this amount of content and the graphics the way they are (awesome) and people are still complaining how it looks.
edit: also i'd like to say that this is probably the best console port i've ever seen.

I can understand this. I'm not to exaggerate so much by calling it terrible looking; it is a beautiful game.
And it's a decent console port, since most are even worse.
But it sucks that the game had to be a console port, at all.
Anyway I got passed the thing I was whining about using a well-placed Fury spell; why sneak around enemies when you can just have them kill each other?
Almost all my perks are going to be based around magic: focusing mainly on Destruction, Illusion, and Conjuration, with some points in Restoration (the increased Magicka recharge rate talent is low in the tree), and some in Enchantment (so I can wear light armor with the same magic-enchancing attributes) and Alchemy (at least the low lying ones that enhance health and magicka potions).
And, of course, I'm leveling Light Armor just by getting hit and wearing it, and Lockpicking just by picking every lock I come across.
But who would ever spend perks in Speechcraft? It looks like a useless perk tree.
uhhh for real? I think speech sounds pretty fucking good...
Can sell any type of item to any kind of merchant.
Can invest 500 gold with a shopkeeper to increase his available gold permanently.
Can barter stolen goods with any merchant you have invested in.
Every merchant in the world gains 1000 gold for bartering.
Can bribe guards to ignore crimes.
all of those sound pretty wonderful to me.

Yeah speech is pretty good, I'll probably end up maxing out those perks (25k for the Solitude house will take awhile)
My other main skills are one-handed, heavy armor which I will get through the useless perks of fistfighting and something else to get the awesome perk of moving at regular speed. I also use destruction, and restoration for healing, so I don't think I'll put many more perks that I have already into restoration. I've got a few in blocking but am holding off on more as lately I find myself using destructive spells with a sword more and more.
Killed my first dragon the other day after having been slaughted by them a couple of times. Felt good, man. Once you level up enough, obviously, and more importantly find a rhythm to how your character best works against them its not too hard really.
I have a 2 handed axe. it is named Wuulthrad. perhaps you've heard of it.
name rings a bell.
i have a dwarven soul collecting bow atm
edit: how many hours you guys played btw. i have 34 hours btw. and yeah i dont think im far at all. i still need to get jargen windcallers horn or w/e.

I got about 36.5 hours in, not even near done me thinks.
That makes sense... I didn't even look at the talent tree, so I just took Speechcraft to affect Persuasion dialogue options and a flat discount on merchant items.
What I would really like to know is exactly how each skill's level affects abilities associated with that skill.
Also, being a pure caster can be hard at times, especially in dungeons where there's little room to maneuver. Mostly wearing cloth, I'm dead if I get hit 2 or 3 times, or 1 time if it's a power attack. I'm stupid for not investing in Alteration, but I liked Illusion, Conjuration, and Destruction so much more. And Restoration's wards are so weird.
But it does force me to use sneaky maneuvers, like using Muffle to make my footsteps soundless so I can summon a Flame Attronach in front of my enemies then sneak away quickly, or using Fury to force my enemies to kill each other before they see me.
Yeah no kidding.
Some of the side quests are so epic that I just forget the main story altogether.
I may not even complete the main story until a later play-through.
Finally someone made an open world that's crammed with incredible surprises and unique locations everywhere, rather than 50 of the same dungeon layouts with different color spiders like in Oblivion and claiming "there's so much content."
sycld, if there is little room to maneuver, use Flames. Since I use a spell and a sword, I use firebolt like a rifle and flames like a shotgun for close and dirty work. When you level up it's pretty freaking strong, just keep running backwards when they swing and you'll be fine.
This game is automatically better than Oblivion because it doesnt have oblivion gates to the same boring generated worlds 15x over. This game is really pretty, (trying to avoid spoilers) the quest with the big tree is the prettiest thing in a game pretty much ever, and the quest where you have to avenge yourself against some double-crossing no-good lizard thieves is a pretty cool atmosphere too.
Yeah, that's my go-to spell, unless there are specific inherent spell weaknesses or resistances affecting my target. Casters, of course, get shocked.
And I usually do the run backwards thing. The problem is when I accidentally backup into a wall or are facing multiple mobs. Switching from casting to unrelenting force takes enough time for me to get killed.
Meh, I suppose I'm just a clumsy player and get my character trapped more often than I should. But I'm still able to get through the game even if it takes me a few more attempts than it would others.
Oh yeah--does anyone use wards, at all? I've decided to forgo them completely. I've tried them before, but they're a huge drain on mana, and even when I do manage to block an attack I'm not ready to counter.
Wards are for pure mages, not to be used like the NPCs do (for prolonged periods) but rather how you'd use your shield, in appropriately-timed bursts.
If you happen to be on PC and haven't set up your favorites and/or hotkeys, do yourself a favor and do it already.
Yeah I am a pure mage, but I still find wards unwieldy. even to use in bursts. If it's spell damage, it's almost always one of those channeledl continuous stream spells that I should avoid by moving, and if it's melee damage I should be moving out of the way or I'll just get hit again. Eh, I guess I should try it more often when I get trapped.
Also, there are no hotkeys on the PC version, so it's just like the console. But yeah I have my favorites mostly set up.
There are no hotkeys YET. I'm sure a mod will come out for it soon.
Also, changing my FOV to 95 makes this game soooooo much easier to play.
