I just found out about this and I think it looks awesome.
Sounds like a cross between diablo and spore.
I'm downloading the beta now, anyone want to join me?

I'm on now if you wanted to play. It looks pretty good so far.
I've already participated in a Beta.
It looks promising. The ability system is similar to LoL's, even with a passive auto-attack effect for each character (with no ulti, but 6 active abilities per character I think?). The swarms of enemies aRPG 3rd person isometric style is pure Diabloesque.
The level designs, unfortunately, are linear with no overworld, though they are randomly designed each time they are played. You are referred to as a "progenitor," an alien race that designs creature heroes with different abilities through genetics. You perform all your actions, including selecting levels to play and modifying your creatures, from a space ship with different compartments made to handle these tasks. I like the multiplayer coop match-making system, which is really streamlined and designed to get you into the game quickly. At the end of each level you get a chance to receive randomly selected uncommon and rare loot. Old levels are replayable, and if you play through multiple levels consecutively without stopping, you have a higher chance of getting better loot. In fact, you'll have to replay levels, as it will take more advancement than you can get through playing levels once to get to later stages.
I don't know what the vs. multiplayer game is like.
There are 100 characters, which you gradually unlock while progressing through the game. They fit 3 archetypes, whose names I can't remember, but they are: mage-like characters (at-range characters, including healers), tank-like characters (more durable with more close-range disables and abilities), and rogue-like characters (lots of mobility, some limited ranged abilities, high burst). In addition, there are 6 or so different creature types that correspond to their various "home worlds": plasma, necro, bio, tech, etc. They interact with other creature types and their own creature type in rather simple ways, and each type has certain themes (for example, bio-type creatures tend to have more healing and poison abilities than others).
One unique feature is you can take with you a squadron of any 3 combination of characters and switch them out at will with an ability that's on a 30s or so CD.
Another unique feature is that the loot you get fits different slots on each creature, and you add them in a Spore-like editor. You can also convert loot into vanity items which confer no abilities, but also take up no slots and can be added in any number up to a complexity threshold, just to customize the way the creatures look.
One page they took from Diablo III is that there are no health or energy potions, but rather health and energy drops that give you health and mana back as soon as you pick them up. They confer benefit to each of your squad members when they are picked up.
Right now, you can make purchases with "DNA points," obtainable from each level as drops. From a "DNA store," you can purchase both loot and general game advancements (such as unlocking new levels and accessible creatures). You can unlock 3 new creatures to select by increasing your "progenitor level," but with each progenitor level you can only select one new creature from either the new ones available or from ones made available from previous progenitor level advancements.
I'm going to hold out on buying this to see how good the finished product will be in the long run, but it looks promising.
Nice beta review sycld. Sounds good to me. I will most likely buy this when I have the money.
Also sorry ozzy, I went to bed. I will post here when I'm on but I'm not sure when that will be..god damn this final year at university.

Well I participated in the closed beta; I didn't realize it was in open beta since you started this thread. You just said beta, not open beta >_<
One thing that's noticeable is how much harder the end bosses and hordes are. They definitely amped them up. In fact, I would say that the overall difficulty of the game is just a tad bit higher, which is a good thing. I'm also glad that they (seemingly) have made dexterity melee heroes a little less squishy too.
does this really have anything to do with spore i just thought it used its engine or something
also when does this beta end
Its got nothing to do with spore apart from it has spore in the title.
So yeah nermy you will be able to.
and its released later this month infurnus so not long

That's cheap, where from? Looks like Magicka just a different era, probably more fun and less buggy though
http://us.ebid.net/perl/main.cgi?mo=...e=gamers-world
It might look suspicious, but I'm pretty sure it's legitimate.
Also the gameplay is far more complex than Magicka, and it's a lot more like Diablo.
damn, that and crysis 2 for cheap (although $16 now) :\. Well, must be legitimate if it works for you, unless they give out your CC info .
