if nothing at all is moving, or beeping, my guess would be the psu or motherboard.
assuming you have got everything plugged in the right place.

I probably don't have everything plugged in the right place. I hope that is the problem. I'd be upset if one of the parts was not working. Well, I'm just going to gut all the wiring and start from scratch and see where I messed up with the diagrams.

Well, I'm certain I followed the diagrams. I hear something to what I assume is power going into something, but nothing moves. I'm very frustrated.

Unplug your case I/O plugs and use the motherboard buttons to turn the computer on(assuming you mobo has power buttons). Google PSU paperclip, it will jump start your PSU so you can tell if it's working or not.

And an easy tip to know the difference between I and O. think of O as OPEN, so the circuit won't be able to flow through, and I as closed, letting the circuit flow through ^_^.
Does anything light up or turn on when you turn the computer on? Do the CPU cooler fans power on? Case fans?
Verify the memory is seated properly. Is the CPU seated properly?

Spent all day yesterday at a friend's place. We checked the wiring. Turns out it was Cosair's 850w modular power supply. He ended up taking me to the most magical dreamland store ever called Fry's which is a giant mall of computer parts and electronics. I bought a Coolmax 700w powersupply for $75 that worked perfectly. I ended up buying him a $30 power supply tester with a LED panel that I guess gave some pretty good information and gave him $25 gas. Everything is up and running. The only obstacle I have now is activating Windows. We weren't connected online, so doing it over the phone was too difficult. I'll do that later. I just wanted to report my success how everything worked out and that I''ll post photos of everything later.
EDIT - for what its worth I posirepped everyone I could in this thread for all your awesome advice and guidance.

Hahahaha, you sound like you've never heard of a Fry's electronics before :P. It's great! Though they don't always have the best prices (on video cards at least), they sure do have good service and frequent sales. I got my 500W PSU from them for $30 that works just fine, though I wish I got like an 800W because I know if I want to make more upgrades, I'm going to have to buy yet ANOTHER power supply (that would be my 3rd bought in a year or so -_-).
Wow, a DOA Corsair AX, how disappointing, hope you get in touch with them, those aren't cheap.

Alright, I just want your guys input on this. I pretty much have made my mind up, cos I do generally need 6 USB ports, so it's most likely going to be the PRO version I get...
I was going to get the vanilla version but after seeing the number of USB ports, I quickly changed my mind...and the PRO version looks so much nicer.
But, just to create a discussion, and some input to think on...
Which do you guys think?

Worth getting the PRO version?

Don't forget that cases tend to have at least 2 USB ports and you can always buy a USB bay.
I have 6 usb ports and thats not even enough sometimes, good thing I have a hub lol.
Web cam, keyboard, mouse, headset, iPod cord, flash drive, network card.. some other things i'm forgetting lying back there.

Lol you shoulda seen me, basically after whining for a couple months, man.. it sure would be nice to have a new processor.. and some new ram, one day in January, I was just like, YA KNOW WHAT, I'M GONNA GO BUILD A COMPUTER, and I spent the whole day looking for parts, ordered it the next day, picked it up the next, and built it .
i've had the parts picked out for like 2 months now, just been saving to get enough money lol.
should be able to do it this month, but things are looking a little tight...
might be low on money until march lol.
can 150 last month?
i only have to buy lunch and weed and tobacco.
can it be done.

You guys are making me want to build a new rig. I have a webserver at the house now, so my current machine would be perfect for that. I always wanted to build something with water cooling and a real video card (or SLI, etc).
I also need to build some kind of high end monster workstation for the office.
Decisions, decisions.
Post pics, especially build pics. They are what will get me motivated. Who cares about a stack of boxes.
Well don't build or order anything till kepler comes out.
I can't stand this wait.
Also what the hell is kepler.

Well after a brief incompatibility scare, I'm now posting on my new PC.
Yeah, the motherboard didn't pick up my graphics card at all at first, I was like wtf, tried going into the bios and check shit, no luck.
I did a google, and apparently the motherboard I have doesn't like 6950s.
I freaked out and in a last ditch attempt I thought I'd take it out and put it back in again.
Thankfully, it worked.
Also, it doesn't want to load the bios if I have my external hdd plugged in, which is kinda annoying. I'm hoping a format of the external will fix that. I read its something to do with windows 7 boot loader and bad partitions or some shit.
Not played anything on it yet, installing bf3 as we speak.
Pictures coming tomorrow.

Try updating the BIOS. When you say it doesn't want to load the BIOS if the external drive is plugged in, you mean the computer doesn't boot at all? Or Windows doesn't boot?
Glad to hear it's working and running.
The BIOS not loading is weird, not heard of anything like it before. It boots fine, windows loads etc, it's all fine, just when it says during POST "push del to go to bios", I hammer the delete button and it does nothing and just boots windows.
External is recognized and works etc so..
But when I remove the external and boot up, I get into BIOS np.
But yeah it works so yeah alls good!

Maybe it can't detect the keyboard with the external drive plugged in? Does the external drive work with USB 3.0 or eSATA? That would bother me, but it's liveable.
I'd still see if there's an update for the BIOS from the manufacturer's website.
I don't think it's the keyboard not being detected when the external is plugged in, it works in windows after it boots up.
And no, the external is USB 2.0. It's quite old now.
I'm wary of updating BIOS's...just cos I've never done it. and I've heard of people bricking their mobo doing so.
And this came pre overclocked so I'm not sure if I updated the BIOS would I lose my overclocked profile.

My friend had a similar problem, his computer stopped booting, unplugging the external helped get it a little further, but it still wasn't booting correctly. After reseating the Ram, doing a CMOS reset, and cleaning out all the dust, it somehow finally worked, thankfully. I do remember my motherboard didn't like my HD4850, so weird -_-. I upgraded my PSU twice trying to see if the card would work, but then I just ended up going with nvidia and it worked well. then I popped the 4850 in my friend's computer and it worked perfectly fine.
What are all your thoughts on Overclocking? I honestly feel it is really unnecessary for me at the moment. My games are running at solid frames, and my computer runs perfectly fine. I tried overclocking once on my computer, same GTX 460 2gb though, and only after 5mhz increase my computer froze, so I was like okay.. lets not do that again.
Then a month later I have a new computer, same GTX460, but an i5-2500k as well. I haven't overclocked that either, even though there's a simple tool for that. I have the stock CPU cooler, maybe in the future i'll look into a better cooler, if I ever plan on overclocking, because I read that you should if you plan to overclock the CPU. But my video card.. that sure was absurd.. I guess I shouldn't bother overclocking if I don't really need it?
I was using MSI Afterburner, my current Mhz are 710/1420/1800 (core/shader/memory).

ShitFace - all the newer BIOS updates can kick off the update from Windows. Trust me, it's worth doing and easy.
We already discussed overclocking a bit, and I'm personally not into it. My 2.5 year computer plays most games on their highest settings with a budget 4870, i7-920, and 12GB RAM. Maybe if I OC'd, my VM's would load faster? lol
Overclocking, I think, is great. If you have a CPU that overclocks well, I see no reason not to do it.
If you increase in small steps, don't rush it, follow guides, it is pretty safe. It is a lot safer and easier to overclock now than it was a few years ago.
My old pc had a 600mhz on it for 5 years and was fine.
The i5 I have atm has a 900mhz overclock on it and is running great.
If you can squeeze a bit of extra speed out of it, why not.
If you're buying a new build every 2.5 years which is going to be top of the line, yeah you don't really need to overclock, as it will run everything maxed out anyway :P
Rich fucker.

Unless you have a very old CPU, there is no point overclocking for games considering there aren't any that are CPU heavy. The only way a CPU can hinder games is if it's old or it bottlenecks the GPU(s).
i dunno, battlefield 3 is pretty cpu heavy.

CPU heavier then other games, but overall, if you have a CPU that's only a couple years old, you won't have a problem.
