Thanks man. It's sad that many people have to succumb to the dead end cubicle job. Surprisingly, my most tolerated job so far was Radio Shack, until the dick of a manager came in and ruined it for me. I loved helping people there, and I even offered computer help and advice on the side (may have helped my termination, who knows?)
Frankly, I know it's still a dream job to have, even with the amount of people already opening shop in much the same way. I doubt I will do this at first, as getting a stable job in the country at the moment may be a bit harder than it was when I originally chose said field. At first, I came right from high school and wanted to be a marine biologist. That lasted all of two semesters as I got way too bored with learning about sea dirt and detritus. At the time I did not realize that you had to take pointless classes to get to where you wanted to go. Also, I chose that major at the time as I was still a computer buff (or at least tried to be one), and my parents were against it, as it was so closely related to gaming (they deny it now). So now, I think as long as I get into a decent sized company that does repair work, I will be set for my final goal of opening my own shop, either by myself or with a friend. Whether or not it will ever happen remains to be seen.
This is why I really don't like Temple's surroundings. I mean, the campus itself is safe and happy, but step a block outside it's radius and it's a whole different world. Not exactly bad, but I can't exactly say it's not dangerous either. Personally, I stick to the route to my classes, as I take the regional rail line to the campus. I've never really been off the campus grounds, so I wish I could truly chime in. I've just heard about how different it is outside the grounds. Man I suck at wording things right.
Temple can get really bad depending on where you are. My friend's friend live in a house around temple and in the middle of the day someone knocked on their door and put a shotgun to them and robbed their house. It was just recently so you might have heard about that. It all depends on where you are and how bad the area is changes quickly. If I go up towards 40th st on fairmount I would probably be shitting myself. But a couple blocks over on baring and it's a nice area.
I've never heard of that ratio of blacks to whites, but considering the neighborhood, I'd say it's quite likely that number is pretty close. Temple itself, like many colleges, is like it's own microcosm. Whites, blacks, Asians, Mexicans, Europeans, etc. You name the nationality and/or heritage, and they will probably be a student on campus that matches the description.
I, myself, am a white Irish German American. Yeah. Half Irish, half German, half American... oh wai... I did that wrong.
Want to get a degree in computer science and program. But we'll see how that goes
I study ancient history, and I'm in the final year of a Bachelor's programme, but I must say that after 18+ years of education I really can't wait to be done with it. While the prospect of studying for a doctorate appeals to me, going straight into a Master's from now is a majorly boring concept.
So basically I want to get my degree with a decent grade (2:1, a first would be nice) then get into publishing or editing at some level.
going to major in film studies this fall. i might have to go to a college that doesn't offer the major, in which case i have no idea what to major in. maybe take my generals and transfer sophomore year?
Right now I'm a sous chef at a small locally owned restaurant. Im hoping to open my own place before I'm 30. (I have five years left.)
its late i have to work in the morning dont have time for a movie
ya but i like sleep
What useful major isn't already completely saturated?
Oh, right... the sciences.
I study Political Science and just became a junior after this last semester. From there, I plan on pursuing a Law Degree at a school roughly in the top 15 or so law schools in the nation. I've also considered entering the Navy at some point with a friend but that's just a back up plan unless some major war happens.
