Default I think I have pneumonia or bronchitis. Need some quick advice.

Symptoms: slightly runny nose, fever, throat pain, stabbing pain in chest when taking in one half of normal breath(specifically a very low capacity in the right lung), sudden flair up of acid reflux. There is no major spitting up of substance yet, but there very well could be soon.

Now here's my question. Should I just make a doctor's appointment for tomorrow or go to the ER?

    What are your thoughts?
I hear the voices inside my head. They counsel me. They understand. They talk to me.

Okay, new symptom. My chest is squeaking. Spit up is beginning. I think I'll get my dad to take me to the ER.

And would you guys stop hoping I die please? I can feel it.

Well in all seriousness that is not a good reason to go to the emergency room. Emergency room visits are expensive, and you can get same-day doctor's appointments if you call first thing in the morning. I hate to be the bearer of a complementary opinion to people who want you to die, but quit being a bitch and just wait a few hours.

An ER visit would be just as much as an office visit for me. Nothing.

And I'll just have to go to the doctor's tomorrow.

That must be nice, what kind of fucking insurance is that? Obviously it is not on a copay model, did you guys pay off your deductible already or is it some sort of ridiculous insurance where everything is free?

Save the emergency room for people who actually need it.

    It would be "hypochondriac".

And yeah, spitting out bucketfuls of mucus is faking it.

    Get out.

Common sympton of being a "hypochondriac" is over exaggerating symptoms.

Serously. You are such a pussy. Worst case scenario you have bronchitis. Make a doctors appointment and get some medication. Get some Tussinex from the doctor, just tell him nothing helps your cough, not even delsym. I said that when I had bronchitis and he gave me this shit, it has a bunch of hydrocodone(vicodin) in it and allows for some relaxing days. Can't take too much of it but it will stop your cough and relax you.

Killuminati have you ever considered stepping down from your high horse?

I postulate that you have not, primarily because I have not seen evidence to the contrary.

What high horse? Because I told him he was a pussy for overreacting so much? After I said that though I told him how he might be able to get some good medicine that will actually help. Fuck you.

Who is to say he is overreacting? Who is to say the emergency room isn't for him? For all we know his lungs could be calcifying and filling with mucus as we speak.

Get some tussinex and send it to me, then go to another doctor and get some more and consume it for your sickness.

Of course there is a slight chance it could be super cereal and he could just die but I mean really what are the odds of that. Or he could make a doctors appointment for today or tomorrow at latest and figure it out without going to the emergency room where people have more serious problems.

Wait I saw someone else say bronchitis and I read a few of your symptoms but are you coughing? I just kind of assumed you were coughing after seeing a few key words. If you are then I mean everything I said so far. If not then wait for me to change my opinion and consider me misinformed.

I'm just messing with Killuminati. As one could notice I, myself, also criticized Tidus' tenacity, but the lure of annoying Killuminati was too grand.

Yeah, the ER's out in God's country have lines out the doors of people waiting to be treated for drive by shootings and knife wounds. They're super busy, and him going to the ER will totally deny other people treatment. Mmhm.

Do what you want, you idiot. Don't sit around waiting for a room full of people who hate you to tell you what to do.

It's not that him going to the er will kill anyone (most likely) or make anyone have their treatment denied. He will however make other people who may be in real pain or real trouble wait longer when he could just make an appointment. I don't know I have a problem with that. If he really believes that if he is in trouble then by all means go, but with his track record and the fact that he would even ask the question on this forum makes me inclined to believe he doesn't need to go. Too bad he probably already went anyway and this whole discussion is pretty much unnecessary.

Well, fluid in the lung and massive amounts of sputum along with stabbing chest discomfort lend themselves to pneumonia. But he could have just googled the symptoms and all that. Besides, if he goes to a doctor and they think he has pnuemonia, he gets to go to the hospital anyway to get a chest x-ray to confirm, and all he did was add an extra step.

Not all ERs are super busy like the ER in the television program ER. The last time I went to one - for shooting chest and leg pain, which I thought might be a DVT but turned out to be nothing - there was no one in the waiting room at all. This was in the sticks, in Missouri, so I can't imagine wherever the hell he is being much busier. Especially this early in the morning.

It's AIDS. That's not me wishing you would die, that's me wishing you would live a long fulfilling life. Just with AIDS.

Also lol Tidus just wants to go to the ER to meet George Clooney (I don't know the names of any actors who are in it now, I haven't watched it in years.

EDIT: Fuck, Mal beat me to the TV show reference. Curse thee Tetris.

In all seriousness, its not an emergency as such, all they will likely do is advise you go to your doctor, or atleast give you the same treatment as your doctor would, but without wasting the time of Doctors who could be treating people with emergency like injuries like broken bones or trauma.

Well I mean I don't know where he is but in my experience in the ER there was a substantial amount of people in there, nothing crazy but it took a while for me to get in every time. I don't know exactly where tidus lives though so for all i know maybe it's like your experience.

I thought most places have walk-in clinics. If I get sick, I go to a walk-in clinic, wait in the lobby for about thirty minutes, and then see a doctor.

Well, luckily someone canceled an appointment with my doctor...so I'll be going in at 11:00 tomorrow. I'm hoping it's just bronchitis. In that case, I'll just get some amoxycillin, some of that hydrocodone cough medicine shit that killuminati recommended, and some prilosec because my fucking acid reflux is going wild from this.

    Thanks everyone.

    Oh, and Jem, thanks.

Most walk-in clinics don't have doctors on staff all the time, and you're more likely going to end up seeing a nurse practitioner. The Patient First here refers so many patients to our office to deal with things like dullness in the lungs and incomplete lung capacity that you would think the patient would just come here first.

But no. Walk-In clinics are easier, but not always the best choice.

The walk-in clinic I go to has at least two doctors on staff at all times and I always see a doctor when I visit.

Well, congrats. The three Patient Firsts and two Wal-Mart Quik-Sick clinics we have around here only employ nurse practitioners or weekend docs who need or want extra cash.

Now, did it occur to you that the reason they might be quick-sick docs is because they couldn't get a job as a PCP or family physician, and had no specialty? Those are both very real logistical reasons as to why they're working at a walk-in clinic.
