There is one minor flaw in your use of this behavioural pattern - once people realise that you are not actually a victim, then the sympathy they felt for you turns to something else. Anger. Hatred. Contempt.

The right thing to do would be to change your numbers, email address, etc and cut off contact. If you don't want to be contacted, there are ways to avoid it. If she is crazy enough to try to physically come to your apartment, seek legal recourse.
That said, I've always been more partial to psychological warfare. Car doesn't start at random times, cats start disappearing, items appear in the cart from nowhere at the store, grasshoppers converge on her house, collect calls come from prison at 2 AM, etc, etc. It all stops when she stops, without her ever truly knowing it was you. Okay, I'm half kidding, I've never done some of that.

Take the most psychotic high school or college age girl and add twenty-plus years of life experience. My sometimes mentioned/lamented friend was at the top of his "game" earlier this year. Ran off with a nineteen year old, then started messing with her forty-nine year old mom. Finally he ran off with the mom, the daughter started getting crazy and the husband/dad (not to mention sons/brothers) was upset as well for some odd reason. After wrecking two cars and nearly killing himself the second time, the woman went back to her husband and both mother and daughter teamed up before daughter started seeing him again.
Flash forward six months, my friend is working at Subway, finally able to walk on his own again, and hasn't spoken to mother or daughter for a few months. Out of nowhere, the now fifty year old woman calls the store and asks if he works there. An hour later, two county cops come in and arrest him for outstanding warrants. Moral of the story? Don't piss off older women, and if you do, flee the country.
