Starting new on WoW now...wouldn't be as good as a few years back as there is a good chance you will miss out on many of the lower level instances, being able to do those with a proper group is a great experience, but it is very difficult to get a group. So I think it could be difficult to get going, but certainly not impossible. If you get on a server with someone you know, it can make a big difference, if they are high level they can give you advice, boost you and maybe help you out with gold.
