I think the ease of use, accessibility, and not getting slapped with the nerd label is what makes consoles so popular, not how comfortable the controllers are. I mean, with a 360 you can just grab a controller, hop on your couch, and play until your heart desires with all your friends. PC's have been "nerdy" forever now, so PC gaming has been considered nerdy too. PC gaming is typically done by yourself on a desk in your room. Sure, LAN parties are possible, but thats only considered nerdier, and setup is just a pain in the ass (I always hated lugging my tower, monitor, mouse, keyboard, and speakers everywhere.). Consoles just need another controller and bam, you've got a buddy to play with.

So, in conclusion, I think the "nerdiness" and seclusion involved in PC gaming is what steers people away, not a mouse and keyboard.

Unless of course you really hate using a mouse and keyboard.

EDIT: Also, the general uninformed public is typically scared of the thought of the inside of a computer. Many people think they'll break something if they have to install a video card or throw in some RAM. Consoles are simple. You plug it in and its done, no upgrading required.
