Man in ‘coma’ heard everything for 23 years
BRUSSELS - For 23 torturous years, Rom Houben says he lay trapped in his paralyzed body, aware of what was going on around him but unable to tell anyone or even cry out.
The car-crash victim had been diagnosed as being in a vegetative state but appears to have been conscious the whole time. An expert using a specialized type of brain scan that was not available in the 1980s finally realized it, and unlocked Houben’s mind again.

well, he is able to communicated. he can tap out messages using a computer and a touch screen on his wheelchair, and he has regained some movement in his limbs with "intense physiotherapy" (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009...-coma-23-years)
also, there are direct brain interfaces being developed for people that are in this state.

yeah; as i said, there really are people "locked in" their bodies, and direct mind interfaces are real.
however, in this case, there is somehow a minder interpreting the movements of one of his fingers and interpreting these movements as letters. this is subject to the ouiji board effect.

It's FC (facilitated communication) which is almost universally viewed as being complete and utter bullshit. This story really shouldn't have made the news.
