What do you do for a living? Do you like it?
I'm a lineman. I get to put up maintain and repair power lines. I like most everything about it.

I do computer related stuff, consulting, installation, servers, networks, repair etc... I'm really nothing more than a field service technician, but my official job title is "Field Engineer". Hey, if trash men can call themselves sanitation engineers than it's fair game, lol. I wear many hats, I do IT consulting work with our customers, design and install their network infrastructure as well as setup their servers, PC's etc... which is all more on the "design" side. And of course the maintenance and break/fix troubleshooting for our contracts.
The other portion is that we also handle all of Dell's small to medium business work, where a random business contact's Dell, they sell them an Assessment, we are dispatched and we go on site for several hours consulting and basically write a complete proposal of what they want their network to be. Anything from a super small server for basic file sharing in a work group with 5 PC's and 2 shared printers, to something like 10 servers (terminal server, file servers, SAN's) across multiple locations.
The way we are set up we cover large areas, some territories have more than 1 guy, of course the regions next to me are like Cincinnati, OH, Louisville, KY, Toledo, OH etc...
I really enjoy it, it is my first "career" job, and this company generally as really long tenure, so I plan to be there for a long, long, long time. I enjoy what I do, I have a pretty regular work schedule most of the time but some pretty hefty overtime on occasion as well as being on call occasionally.
Doing graphic design shit.
I am in school, my parents give me money.
I enjoy it.
str8 hustlin
Right now I'm getting by on doing odd jobs and stuff like the mystery shopping(yes, some of it is legit).
When I go back to school I'll be working at a grill.
Well I worked in a factory up until the end of november, when i realized that the lifestyle of the factory labourer, advancement included, was still strikingly similar to a hairy ballsack in the mouth.
so i quit my job, bummed around for a month on my savings and now i am helping my aunt and uncle renovate a house in buttfuck nowhere nova scotia in return for room and board and a time to clear my head and figure out what i want
Full time student, unemployed, and getting a grant and loan for school. Laid off from work back in August.
I work at Staples. It has its good days and bad like any job.
Student studying computing, planning on going into software engineering after I finish.
Loving it at the moment.
i'm a "handyman" as my stepdad likes to call it, but i basically do work (with illegals) that no one else wants to do...and then theres the other odd things like slanging and what-not, but fuck, i need a real job
Full time student at the moment, but when I'm back home I work as a brass repair technician (repair man lol). I fix brass instruments.
smoek weed everyday
Accounting
edit: and grad school, for a masters in accountancy
No but really I go to school and work at Sherwin-Williams.
Full time college student and I work at Publix part-time. It's gas money.

I work in there as a Personnel Specialist. Simply put, I do a lot of paperwork and help people. There are a lot of things admin people do, but the meat of what I do is give people their awards and make sure their service record is squared away for exams. I don't have a gun and would probably never ever have to use one. If I stayed in after this, there would be a slim chance I might be temporarily ordered to do admin work in base in a warzone. I do other things such as manage supplies and muster the division. The really cool thing I get to learn how to do is to fight fires, manage floods, and learn how to survive chemical, biological, and radiation attacks.
I like the Navy because it takes care of food, board, free health care, $400K life insurance, travel, and free education.
Kind of sounds cool to just get up and leave to travel to another country. Besides being buttfuck nowhere, what is the rest of Nova Scotia like?

Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth.

To be fair, I am Canadian, born and raised, but moving from Ontario to the east coast... it's basically like another country. Nova Scotia tends to be pretty laid back in a lot of ways - I went boxing day shopping (which is held on the 27th instead of the 26th) and it was basically just a busy day for any future shop I'd go to in Ontario.
But I'd rather be doing anything than working in a factory, so learning home renovation basics and living in a little artist's community is pretty appealing to me, as I'm a fairly artsy guy anyways. One of my little hobbies is photography, and NS is pretty photogenic. There's a lot of little natural sites you can go to to take pictures, and in the summertime, there are enough festivals in Halifax to keep me there - the occasional Tall Ships festival and the Buskerfest being the ones that come to mind first.
To be honest, when I was (and still am) considering various careers, one of them was learning a trade in the canadian navy. Apparently they'll do skills training (electrician etc.) and give you a job there, and the pay is decent. A family friend is an electrician on a warship and earns enough to comfortably support a wife and kids on just his pay, so this is a pretty tempting option for me, but I haven't made my mind up yet. I guess I just like being a cat lying across an open doorway.
going to school and delivering pizza
My job is being fabulous.
Much like Seth Green in Party Monster.
I'm on coop at drexel right now and I'm working as an assistant lab engineer in an EMC(Electromagnetic Compatability) lab. We do testing on products companies send us to determine if they pass military standard so they are able to be put on ships. So far it's pretty interesting, I have never been in this kind of work environment and it's giving me some really good experience. I was hoping to get a higher paying job, this one is $12/hr but I get some pretty good benefits. Every 2 weeks I get 4 hours of vacation time and 4 horus of sick time and I get paid holidays. Your tax dollars are paying for my bills and other expenses suckas.
edit: MPR you better hope I test this stuff right or you could be screwed lol.

I make over 0.0046 cents a second at work
Full time student living mostly off of scholarships and grants. I have a very part-time jobe working for the Hazardous Waste division of the EH&S department.
IT Technician. I enjoy my job but come April it wouldn't suprise me if I get made redundant as my work has a HUGE deficit in their budget. Thank you local county council for screwing all schools over!
I've held a few widely varying roles in my current job. The first role was simple: Infantryman. Seek out and kill the enemy. Decent pay, excellent weight loss plan, and all-you-can-shoot M855 ball ammunition. It's what I joined the company for.
Second role was as a public showperson for the company. Stand straight, walk nice, put on a good show for everyone from El Presidente, to foreign dignitaries, to Joe Citizen, to retiring employees of the company. During this time I also performed many burial services for former members of the company.
Now I work at the mall. My current role has me seeking out qualified applicants for the company. Part of this job has me coordinating with local politicians and organization and being a public affairs spokesperson for the company. Stress-wise this will be demanding, work-wise, not so much.
Other roles I have held while with the company have been supervisor of between five and thirty subordinates, teacher, small arms repairman, landscaper, painter, ditch-digger, and too many other to list.
I have excellent benefits, make over $60k a year, get free education and steady advancement, annual pay raises. Etc. Etc. I may not work hard, but I earn it.
fm2176, I love how you explained your job. I also work for the company, and do a variety things. When I first started it was lots of school and learning the basics of the trade, then after that the company chose to put me in Georgia to work as a police officer, which was more like doing campus security with just a little more importance and excitement. I also did a lot of side jobs such as broom pushing, some vehicle maintenance and a lot of sitting around. I've also got the chance for free college education, I have outstanding benefits, I never have to work with the insurance company and they give me free housing that includes water, electricity and waste removal. I'm currently working in a prison camp in the Middle East for the company doing whatever they want me and my fellow employees to do. I catch quite a bit of hell from other people in the company who have different specialties, I think it's because our job title is Multi-Purpose and we can do what they do, as well as what we're supposed to do. fm's people are the main ones who are jealous of us, but I like 'em, good people.
