Thread: Fallout 3

Well it's out on Friday, is anyone looking forward to this?

I haven't played the first 2 but I've heard a lot about them and vaguely know the setting and the kind of game it is.
I was thinking about playing through the first 2 before this came out, but I only realised how close it was to release like today, so I don't really have the time to start them.

I will probably get this on release date and after looking at some videos and hearing a lot about the first 2 I'm looking forward to it quite a lot.

Anyone else?

I'll be getting it first day, but doesn't it come out tomorrow which is Tuesday? Unless you don't live in the US of course though. To give you an idea, it's made by the same guys of Oblivion so picture Oblivion with guns. Also I'm getting it for the PS3 despite the lesser graphics, you?

The reviews say that the PS3 version has slightly worse graphics than the 360 and of course PC always has the best graphics. The PS3 has been stated to have faster load times but clearly the reviews state that the 360 version is the better version.

Yeah I'm in the UK where the release day is the 31st, which I'm pretty sure is this Friday.Also yeah I've read about how its made by Bethesda.
I'll be getting it on PC ofc.
I'll post some screenshots when I do, hopefully I'll be running it on max settings.

I think I'll wait for the reviews on this one. It looks like it could be the type of game I've been wanting to play for years or it could be really boring. I've never played Oblivion so I don't really know what to expect.

I'm hoping this is more like the game I wish S.T.A.L.K.E.R was.

I thought it was fucking epic.
I found it a little slow at the start and a little difficult to get into the storyline, but once I had, it was fucking awesome.

Well the first stopped working shortly after I started but it was alright. I'm playing Clear Sky at the moment and it seems quite good so far. Maybe a bit repetitive though, go here, kill that/collect that, return for your reward.

I'm getting a 360 tomorrow and I've got LBP and GoW2 on pre-order, plus a shitload of other PS3/360 games to buy in the next few weeks. I doubt I'll play much more of clear sky to be honest.

Good to hear it hydro, you have completed my life long dream.

I had a lot of crashes with the first one as well, it would crash within seconds of me loading it up, and it was very laggy.
There are a good number of tweaking guides for the first stalker on the internet though which helped me a lot and after a lot of messing around in the console and changing a few things i managed to get it running on med-high settings with no lag and no crashes.
I got a link to the article in my bookmarks at home if you would like me to link you to it, its worth doing as the storyline in the first one is awesome and of course is related to clear skies.

I've also bought clear skies (nice in DX10!) but haven't really played it apart from running it to config it and see how it runs since I got it.
University is gay like that.

I've bought like 4 new games in the past week and they're all awesome but I don't have enough time to play them all lol. It sucks.

Thanks but I doubt I'll bother with the first again any time soon. CS seems to run fine and I've played a fair bit (well it seems like I have, anyway) so I'll try and finish it at some point. I'm at the part in cordon just past the bridge, about to go to the junkyard place. I've got the mod that lets you carry 85kg, gives you more weapons from shops and lets you find artefacts from stalkers. Makes it a lot more fun.

Got a really good review on IGN. Goddamn it why did I just spend 60 bucks on Farcry?

Well its nice to hear it isn't a let down so far.

The V.A.T.S combat system has been pretty fun to play with so far, and the humor in game is pretty damn funny.

Awesome, I was looking forward to a good laugh while playing it through.

What kind of characters did you guys build?

Mine is basically a genius who talks his way through things and I main weapon choice was explosives.

I don't understand the VACS system, can you just spam it or is there a time limit on it?

I made a smart talker specializing in small guns. Going to go for 'good guy' on this play through.

I made a theif and kick ass with the bobby pin.

Shooting people without the VATS system is hard as shit unless they're far away.
Also having a guy shooting at you with a assault rifle before you break his arm with a sledge hammer and then smash his head off is probably one of the most satisfying things I've done in a video game.

Picked the wrong lock today, in megaton go to the bar and go upstairs and pick the door at the top of the stairs.
Everyone in the bar goes apeshit and I ran outside and everyone in town was shooting at me.

There's apparently no install. I just jumped right in and started playing. Which is nice.

But I thought there would be trophies. That was why I picked this up before LBP. I KNOW LBP has trophies, but I thought Fallout did, too. Bummer.

Dunno what you mean by trophies, but there are bobble heads.
Also the bloody mess perk is epic.

The sledge hammer is great with VATS.

Trophies are the PS3 equivalent of achievements. Sony was late getting the kits out for trophies to be implemented, so games are just now getting them. It's a crapshoot as to what actual games have them implemented, but I was hoping Fallout 3 would have them. Seeing as the development cycle took forever, though, it would have been difficult to code them, I imagine. It's no big loss. I'm having a blast playing the game. I found a Chinese Sword just now.

If so

If you do the sidequests for Moira she'll eventually send you to a place called Minefield. There's a place just south of there named Scrapyard where you'll find Dogmeat fighting off a few raiders. I assume you could find him there without doing the side missions, but it would be kinda hard for me to explain where it is.
