I stopped reading comics for over a year but now I finally have the money to start buying them again. What are some titles I should look at? Preferably titles I don't have to buy more than a few back issues to get caught up with the current story arc.
In the past I've read mostly Marvel stuff but I'm willing to expand my horizons.
Comics suck these days
Marvel is fucking retarded now. World War Hulks is a fucking travesty, involving Hulk Villains (Samson and The Leader off the top of my head) hulking out normal heroes (Deadpool, Spiderman, Wolverine, Iceman, and Cyclops) and Dark Reign is involving some giant war with Valhalla in New York.
They also killed the Punisher and resurrected him as a Frankenstein esque monster. I'm not making this shit up.
DC is focusing on the Lanterns right now. I believe Blackest Night is just wrapping up and the comic I perused the other day had some White Lantern ring and battery looking for a host.
I don't know much about indie stuff. I assume The Boys is done with by now, so you should torrent buy them and read them, but it still might be going. Constantine is always good. I'm sure you'll like Kick Ass, it's stupid.

I've already read Kick Ass. I didn't think it was that bad. The movie was certainly better.
Uh, well for DC Blackest Night was ok. Not as good as the other recent green lantern storylines, but it was decent. Flash Rebirth is a good jumping on point as well for that series and it just finished recently so it's still pretty fresh.
As for Marvel, Amazing Spider-Man is pretty good right now. If you really want to get into it a good starting point would be ASM #546.
Cosmic marvel stuff is always solid. You can get started with War of Kings if you want and lead into the current storylines from there in Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy.
The current X-Men storyline, Second Coming, is pretty good too, but it started a while back and you'll probably have to read all of Messiah Complex, Messiah War, and Cable's ongoing to really get a feel for it.
Other than that yeah, like Captain Castle said it's just been a shitfest of things nobody really cares about. Hopefully once Siege is over things will pick up a bit.

I liked dark reign, but I haven't finished it yet. For some reason, I like it when the bad guys are on top. Only thing that could have made it better is if they had King Pin back instead of the Hood.

Wait, so is punisher Max still normal punisher, or that gay cyborg?
Punisher max has always been apart from 616, it's own universe so to speak, hence the lack of involvement from any normal marvel characters (besides ones from the Marvel Knights line)
However, I don't know how they handled Jigsaws death in MAX, whether they acknowledge it as canon or as if it never happened (I'm inclined to believe they treated it as a separate entity since he was also in the War Zone title recently which is 616)
kingpin came back recently in daredevil but i guess he's keeping a low profile. maybe there'll be a lady bullseye / frankencastle crossover in the near future hehehe
The Messiah stuff was awesome and I wish it was over so I could just download it and read it all or just buy hardcover.

I read quite a few MAX comics a whlie back, and I had been considering doing it again until I heard about the frankencop.
Other than Kitchen Irish, Max 1-60 is just amazing. Each 6 issue run offers a deeper insight into the psyche of the punisher, as well as brutality unmatched in the current comic market.
